Welcome to Mulberry Gîte – a family-friendly home from home in rural France!
Mulberry Gîte combines modern comfort with rustic character, offering a spacious and welcoming base for families and friends to relax and enjoy time together in the beautiful Deux-Sèvres region.
Set in a peaceful setting in Chef-Boutonne, the gîte is part of our pair of neighbouring holiday homes, Gîtes de Javarzay. Guests can enjoy the charm of our enclosed walled garden, their own terrace for outdoor dining and relaxing, and a seasonal saltwater swimming pool shared exclusively by guests staying in our two gîtes.
There's plenty to keep everyone entertained, whether you're enjoying a family games afternoon, cooling off in the pool during the summer or unwinding after a day exploring the local area.
The beautiful Château de Javarzay and its grounds are just a short stroll away, while the bakery and Chef-Boutonne town centre are within walking distance. Shops, bars, restaurants and everyday amenities are close at hand, making it easy to enjoy village life without needing to drive everywhere.
For cooler-season stays, the log burner adds a cosy touch. We want guests to feel comfortable, settle in and enjoy a relaxed French getaway, with the freedom to explore the surrounding countryside and attractions at their own pace.

We had a wonderful long stay at the Gîtes de Javarzay. The gîte is incredibly spacious, immaculately clean and very well equipped, which made self-catering for our family meals so much easier.
The location was perfect for exploring the local area but equally enjoyable to spend the whole day in the garden and by the pool (lots of great games are provided and we loved the table tennis). Chef-Boutonne was fairly quiet but has everything you need including a boulangerie 1min walk away.
Paul & Lorraine were incredible hosts who went above and beyond from the minute we arrived (you can’t beat a welcome hamper with local produce!). We booked directly via their website and communication/ease of booking was 10/10 also. Thank you again for a perfectly peaceful stay.

We had such a lovely stay and couldn’t recommend this beautiful Gites de Javarzay enough! It was perfect for our family with a toddler, with lots of toys available both inside the house and around the pool, which made the stay so easy and enjoyable for us.
The pool was absolutely amazing — such a beautiful, relaxing space and we spent lots of time enjoying it. Everything was clean, pristine and very well looked after.
Our hosts Lorraine & Paul were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with a gorgeous welcome basket filled with delicious local French produce, which was such a lovely touch.
They were also so helpful with recommendations for things to see and do in the area and were always available if we needed anything. You can really tell how much care and thought they put into making their guests feel comfortable.
We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be booking again when we’re back in the area! 🇫🇷❤️

My wife and I, along with our three boys (10, 6 and 4) had a brilliant stay at this property. Lorraine and Paul were very friendly and helpful with various tips about the local area. There is lots to do within an hour or so - we enjoyed a boat ride in Coulon (Green Venice), a stroll around La Rochelle, and some beach time at Chatelaillon Plage. But we also really liked just relaxing at the gîte. The pool area is fantastic, and the kids loved playing about with the inflatables. The property itself is spacious and nicely decorated, and was perfect for a weeks stay. Shops and supermarket within a few minutes drive. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place.

Our stay at this wonderful gîte was absolutely fabulous! The space was fantastic and gave our family plenty of room to relax and enjoy our time together. Everything was spotlessly clean and the accommodation was so thoughtfully equipped, with everything wecouldpossibly need, including games, DVDs and books. We also were given a welcome hamper on arrival which was a lovely touch.
The real highlight for us was the pool area. The saltwater pool was amazing! It was our first experience of a saltwater pool and we absolutely loved it. It was such a fantastic place to relax and cool off.
Lorraine and Paul were wonderful hosts and could not have been more welcoming, accommodating or friendly. They really went out of their way to make us feel at home.
We had a truly fabulous stay and would love to return in the future. We would highly recommend this beautiful gîte to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable family holiday in France!

We stayed in Lorraine and Paul's largest gîte for a week during the 2026 summer holidays. It has been a fantastic holiday, and Lorraine and Paul have been so kind and helpful.
The house is newly renovated and incredibly beautiful and well-functioning, and it has everything you could imagine needing. There were 4 of us staying, and we had an impressive amount of space.
Everything was really nice and completely clean when we arrived, and the pool and outdoor areas were cleaned every day.
The kitchen is really lovely and has everything you could imagine needing. There are 3 bathrooms inside, as well as a toilet and a shower by the pool. There are games, books, entertainment, and play and game activities to enjoy everywhere in the house and outside. The pool has salt water and not chlorine, and it's really pleasant to swim in.
The house is within walking distance of shops, bakeries and town life.
There is an information book available with everything you might need and lots of great suggestions for excursions in the area.
Throughout our stay, Lorraine and Paul have been really sweet and helpful in ensuring that we had a good holiday with great experiences. We can highly recommend their lovely house to others.

We had a wonderful stay at Paul and Lorrains as a family of four with our young son. They had everything you'd need for a small baby - cot, high chair, toys etc.
Paul and Lorraine did everything they could to ensure we had a fantastic stay - which we did! There's lots to do from Chef Boutonne - we enjoyed the market at Melle on Friday and in the village on Saturday morning, a trip to Angoulême and La Rochelle. However, our favourite day out was to Coulon (green Venice) where there's endless bike trails and cafes/restaurants to explore along with boat trips etc.
Paula and Lorraine had lots of recommendations and we'd highly recommend their accommodation for a family as there's tones of space, lots to do and of course, the wonderful swimming pool and bbq spaces to enjoy!

Lorraine and Paul are super nice hostess and host who would do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The perfectly equipped, spacious and very clean gîte has, in addition to the excellently maintained swimming pool, also plenty of entertainment for the kids: board games, countless DVDs for a rainy day and air mattresses for the swimming pool. There is plenty of information about activities in the area. The welcome package with a chip, cookies and a bottle of wine certainly pleased us! We had a wonderful week with our children of 1 and 3 and we will definitely come back!

We had a wonderful stay with Lorraine and Paul. We had four teenagers with us and there was so much space in the bedroom. Two big bathrooms upstairs made for a very comfortable stay instead of arguing over space. It’s very large inside and plenty of space for everyone. The pool was great with lots of inflatables for the kids and sun loungers and parasols for adults. One minutes walk to the local bakery and then a 10 minute walk into the main square with a great supermarket. The fire has everything you could possibly need and is very new and well equipped. Great hosts and full of local knowledge. Thanks for our stay!

We give our best recommendations to Lorraine and Paul. They are perfect hosts who have been very helpful and sweet. Gite is really nice - everything is newly renovated and in good condition. Good beds, perfectly clean and everything you could wish for. A well-equipped kitchen, three toilets and many square meters of tasteful and beautiful decor. Many board games, outdoor games and movies available. We enjoyed swimming in the pool, which was cleaned every morning. Private parking in a closed yard. We give our best recommendations to anyone who wants to spend a holiday and enjoy peace and quiet in a large gite with everything you need. We hope to come back one day.
